COURSE DESCRIPTION

Basic Sailing (S-101)

Goal:
To learn to sail a boat 20'-30' in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision.
Ashore and Afloat Skills:
Students will learn the parts and functions of a sailboat, basic knots, "rules of the road", basic boat handling and performance under sail and power.

Basic Coastal Cruising (S-103)

Goal:
To learn to cruise safely in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew of an Auxiliary Sailing Vessel of about 20 to 35 ft. in length, in moderate wind and sea conditions.
Ashore and Afloat Skills:
Students will learn to interpret a nautical chart, boat handling under all points of sail, USCG required safety gear, additional knots and much more.

Bareboat Charter Standard (S-104)

Goal:
To learn to act as Skipper of a 30-50 foot boat sailing by day in coastal waters. A more advanced cruising standard for individuals who want to gain cruising experience. The standard includes knowledge of boat systems and maintenance.
Ashore and Afloat Skills:
Students will act as Skipper and Crew on a live-aboard cruise of at least 48 hours, including a minimum of one-night at anchor.

Coastal Navigation Standard (S-105)

Goal:
To learn to demonstrate the Navigational Theory required to safely navigate a vessel in coastal or inland waters. The practical application is conducted in the Advanced Coastal Cruising Standard.
Ashore Skills:
We recommend combining this with the "Great Getaway" or trying the "Offshore Adventure" combination course.

Advanced Coastal Cruising (S-106)
 
Goal:
To learn to safely act as Skipper and Crew of a vessel about 30-50 feet in length, operating day or night in coastal or inland waters, in any weather.
Ashore & Afloat Skills:
This course builds on the skills learned in the Bareboat Charter Standard. Students will learn to sail under more challenging conditions. When possible students will experience a night sail and a night man overboard drill, and will make an offshore passage of at least 20 miles.
